Our Mission
The New England Salem Children’s Village endeavors to provide a happy, loving home environment for children in need and unable to live with their families for a time. We provide a place where they can feel safe to heal and work through the struggles and challenges that life has thrust upon their young lives. Our vision is to provide a safe, holistic environment in which children and families are treasured and where every child in our care will experience a childhood that affords the basis for a fulfilling life.
Our motto is "salem means peace", which is quite literal; the word is derived from "Shalom" and Salaam," the Hebrew and Arabic words for Peace and our peaceful/rural/vegetarian program is all derived from that core principle. To accomplish this we:
- Provide a loving, compassionate, and therapeutic environment.
- Provide a family structure to assist the child in meeting the life challenges they face based on non-violent values.
-
Strive to follow the international philosophy of non-violence.
- Commercial television, toys and games of violence are not allowed on campus.
- Emphasis is placed on outdoor activities with an understanding of, and appreciation for the environment.
- Nourish our children using a natural, whole foods, vegetarian diet.
- Teach our children to respect the earth and its creatures and how to love, work and play in harmony with nature and all humankind.
